Whether an experienced do-it-yourselfer or a first-time remodeler, a remodeling project can be intrusive and overwhelming to every aspect of a person’s life. That’s why hiring a professional can save time, money, and a lot of unnecessary stress.
Recently, my husband and I decided to finally remodel the last room in our home that remained untouched by my interior decorator hands –- our master bathroom. My vision was to transform our 1969 master bathroom into a modern, stylish space, but I didn’t want to do anything too custom as we may look to sell our home in a few years. The design and décor needed to appeal to potential future buyers.
The first step of the renovation was deciding whether or not we could knock down the wall between the master bathroom and our guest room closet to maximize the space and upgrade to a double vanity and larger shower — the most important elements of the project. When I first met with a recent client, Stuart, he shared memories of raising his family, gatherings with friends, and 23 years in his beautiful 3,200-square-foot contemporary home.
The home offered tremendous open space and wonderful features, but for the past several years, key rooms in the home were converted to Stu’s home office suite. The living and dining room housed desks, chairs, and video editing equipment — an uninviting space for a young family seeking a place to call home and make their own memories.
Real estate professional Ellen Levada of Calcagni in Cheshire, Conn., recommended our staging services to make the home attractive to buyers, get it sold, and for top dollar. With a new home already purchased, Stu was motivated and understood the importance of staging to sell. After our initial meeting, he embraced our proposal to stage 14 rooms and showcase the open floor plan, square footage, and wonderful architectural details of the home.
Buyers today want move-in condition homes with updated decor that can easily fit their lifestyle and furnishings. Fresh modern paint choices in several of the rooms and new carpeting provided a neutral canvas for furnishings and decor. Our team then transformed 14 rooms in the home in a single day to “wow” buyers and help establish an emotional connection to the space. Continue reading »

Fifteen seconds. That’s how long a home for sale has to make a good first impression. And, that’s if you can get today’s sophisticated buyers off their mobile device and to the front door. More than 90 percent of home buyers search for a home online, making it more important than ever for a home’s listing photos alone to capture buyer interest.
Home owners who have finally made a decision to sell their home may not be thinking about updating and remodeling. But staging — coupled with remodeling — are important considerations in a home selling strategy and an investment in getting top dollar for a home.
Even modest updates preserve the equity a family has built in their home. Ultimately, the cost to update something in their home before it goes on the market will be less than the price reduction buyers will expect as compensation for out-of-date rooms.
Older homes, in particular, may require improvements in key rooms such as kitchens or baths to meet today’s buyer demand for a move-in ready home.
